Born on 27 February 1811 in Yorkshire, England, the eldest son of the Rev. James Wilson, of Atwick, Yorkshire, and his wife Jane, nee Burrhill. Educated at St. John's College, Cambridge University. Ordained deacon at York. Ordained priest on 18 December 1836 at York. He married on 6 July 1836 at Keyingham, Yorkshire, England, to Charlotte Louisa Barber. Arrived at Melbourne on 15 November 1839 per "William Metcalfe" from Plymouth, Devon, England, as a missionary for the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel. Proceeded to Sydney, New South Wales, per "William Metcalf" in December 1839 and returned to Melbourne in January 1840 per "Indemnity". At St. James', Melbourne. Appointed to Portland, c1842. Left St. Stephen's, Portland, c1869. Died on 20 January 1875 at his residence, 316 Lygon Street, Carlton, Victoria, and was buried on 21 January 1875 at the Melbourne General Cemetery, Carlton, Vic.
