Rev. WILLIAM TROLLOPE

(1798-1863) ( Church of England )

Born on 29 August 1798 at Ugley, Essex, England, the son of the Rev. Arthur William Trollope, sometime Headmaster of Christ's Hospital Grammar School, London, England. Educated at Christ's Hospital Grammar School, London, and Pembroke College, Cambridge University (B.A.,1821; M.A.,1824). Assistant master at Christ's Hospital Grammar School, London (1822-32). A noted Greek scholar, he was editor of the dramatic works of Eschylus and Sophocles. He married on 5 April 1825 at East Bergholt, Suffolk, England, Sarah Clarke, daughter of William Clarke of East Bergholt, Suffolk. Ordained priest at London on 29 May 1825. Vicar of Great Wigston, Leicestershire (1834-48). Arrived at Melbourne on 22 October 1849 per "John Munn" from London, England, with his wife and family. Lectured at the Mechanics Institute. Opened a school in Fitzroy. Went to Van Diemen's Land. At St. Mary's, Green Ponds (1852-63). Died on 23 March 1863 at Green Ponds, Tasmania, and was buried on 27 March 1863 at Green Ponds, Tasmania.
