Born on 9 May 1800 at Wark, Northumberland, England, the son of George Thomson and his wife Isabella. Educated at the University of Edinburgh. Master of a grammar school at Wooler, Northumberland, in 1830. Ordained deacon in December 1830 by Bishop Blomfield at St. James', Westminster, London, England. Went to India as a missionary with the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel. At Tanjore (1831-33). He married firstly, on 28 February 1832 at Tranquebar, Madras, India to Fredericka Louisa Hanbroe, widow of the Danish missionary, Lawrence P. Hanbroe. At Negapatum (1833-35). Ordained priest in January 1835 by Bishop Wilson of Calcutta at Tajore, South India. He married secondly in 1835 in South India to Adele Zele/Zelia Adelaide Mourier, daughter of the Rev. F. L. Mourier, a professor from Copenhagen, Denmark. At Vepery, Madras (1836-39).Returned to England c1839. Arrived at Sydney, New South Wales on 30 August 1840 per "Mary Anne" from London, England. Arrived at Melbourne on 26 September 1840 per "Jewess" from Sydney, N.S.W. At St. James', Melbourne (1840-50). Went to Van Diemen's Land. At Windermere. Appointed to Evandale in 1853. His wife died at Morven in February 1855. Went to England on leave c1855. Died on 23 September 1859 at the Parsonage, Norwood Green, Middlesex, England.
