Born on the 20 September 1808 at Gosport, Hampshire, England, the son of Thomas Scott, grocer, and his wife Eliza, nee Rice. He married on 17 June 1835 at St. Mary's Parish Church, Nottingham, England to Jemima Baker, daughter of John Baker and his wife Anna, nee Measam. Arrived at Adelaide, South Australia from England in April 1849 per "Sir Charles Forbes" with his wife and family. Arrived at Melbourne alone on 2 July 1849 per "Souvenir" from Adelaide, his family following in November per "Australia." Briefly at the Baptist Church, Collins Street. On 20 October 1850 he commenced services in the Mechanics Institute based on what was known as the Communion Principle. A new church was opened at Albert Street, East Melbourne, on 16 October 1853. Ministered there till his death. Died on 7 April 1856 at River Street, Yarra Berg, Richmond, Victoria, and was buried on 9 April 1856 at the Melbourne General Cemetery, Carlton, Vic.
