Born c1810 at Glasgow, Scotland, the son of Alexander Ross, overseer in a muslin factory, and his wife Agnes, nee Bell. Educated at the Secession Theological Hall. He married, c1833, at Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland, to Lily Orr. Arrived at Melbourne, Port Phillip District on 17 January 1851 per "Sydney" from Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland. Appointed to Portland, P.P.D., in September 1851 to replace the Rev. Thomas Elliot Richardson. Became known as an author. Had to resign after a few years because of his failing eyesight. Later moved to Echuca with his wife and family. Died on 26 March 1883 at his residence, Hare Street, Echuca, Victoria, and was buried on 27 March 1883 at the Echuca Cemetery, Vic.
