Born c1792 in Scotland. Educated at the University of Edinburgh. Entered the ministry c1823. He married on 2 (or 16) September 1832 at West Linton, Peebles, Scotland and/or on 9 September 1832 at Kinross, Kinrosshire, Scotland to Euphemia Robertson, daughter of Peter Robertson, wright, of Kinross, Scotland, and his wife Agnes. Was minister at West Linton, Peebles, Scotland for many years in connection with the United Secession, and later in the Peebles area. Was brought out to Australia by the Rev. Dr. John Dunmore Lang to be his assistant in the Sydney area. Arrived at Melbourne on 4 January 1847 per "Anne Milne" from Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland, en route to Sydney. Returned to Melbourne later that year for a visit. In 1850 he became the first Presbyterian minister in Yass, New South Wales. Died on 26 October 1854 at Yass, N.S.W., and was buried on 28 October 1854 in the churchyard of St. Clement's Church of England, Yass, N.S.W.
