Rev. THOMAS ELLIOT RICHARDSON

(c1815-1869) ( Presbyterian - United )

Born on 4 June 1814 at Islington, Middlesex, England, the son of Thomas Richardson, schoolmaster, and his wife Sarah, nee Fisher. Educated at the University of Glasgow (B.A.,1836; M.A.,1837). Thought to have been tutor to the family of the Governor of Van Diemen's Land. He married on 23 June 1842 at Bothwell, V.D.L., to Jane Anderson, daughter of Alexander Anderson and his wife Cecilia, nee Oliphant. Returned to Scotland c1847. At Glasgow. Arrived at Melbourne on 24 October 1848 per "Lochnager" from London, England. A United Presbyterian missionary at Portland till c1851. Retired from the ministry and became editor and proprietor of the "Portland Guardian" newspaper. Died on 28 April 1869 at the residence of his brother-in-law, Alexander Anderson, 'Baangal', near Skipton, Victoria.
