Born on 17 February 1807 at Hackney, Middlesex, England, the son of John Perry, shipbuilder and sheriff of Essex, and his wife Mary, nee Green. Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University (B.A.,1828; M.A.,1831; D.D.,1847). Ordained deacon on 16 June 1833 and priest on 26 November 1836. Assistant tutor at Trinity College, Cambridge University (1832-40). He married on 14 October 1841 at the Kirk Ella Parish Church, Yorkshire to Frances (Fanny) Cooper, daughter of Samuel Cooper, merchant, of Hull, Yorkshire. Curate of St. Paul's, New Town, Cambridge (1842-45) and vicar there (1845-47). Consecrated bishop of Melbourne at Westminster Abbey on 29 June 1847. Arrived at Melbourne on 24 January 1848 per "Stag" from London, England. Laid the foundation stone of St. Paul's, Melbourne, on 21 September 1850. Retired in 1876. Prelate of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (1878). Canon of Llandaff Cathedral (1878). Residing at 32 Avenue Villa, St. Marylebone, London, Middlesex, England in the 1881 census. Died on 2 December 1891 at 32 Avenue Road, Marylebone, London, England and was buried at Harlow, Essex, England.
