Born in 1800 in Scotland. Licentiate of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1820. Educated at the University of Glasgow (M.D.,1831). In H.M. Navy. Arrived at Melbourne on 9 April 1839 per "Agnes" from Hobart, Van Diemen's Land. Laid the foundation stone of the Scots Church, Melbourne, on 22 January 1841. Elder at Scots Church. In partnership with Dr. David E. Wilkie at Elizabeth Street, Melbourne. His first wife, Margaret Ewing, died at Melbourne on 4 April 1841. He possibly remarried c1842 in Melbourne. Departed for London per "Duke of Richmond" on 14 February 1843. Returned to Scotland. Died on 10 February 1878 at Carron Park, Larbert, Stirlingshire, Scotland.
