Born on 22 February 1813 at Kilkenny, Ireland, son of Alexander Morison, hat manufacturer, and his wife Martha, nee Pedlotte. Arrived at Hobart, Van Diemen's Land, c1832. Returned to England c1834. Studied at Highbury College, Islington, London. Briefly at Dublin, Ireland c1838? Returned to Hobart, V.D.L., c1838. Appointed to Pittwater. Travelled over a wide area in his ministry. Arrived at Melbourne on 12 July 1843 per "Lillias" from Hobart, V.D.L. At the Independent Church, cnr. Collins and Russell Streets (1843-c1864). He married on 27 November 1851 at the residence of the bride's father, Clifton Vale Hunting Grounds, V.D.L., to Salome Pitt, daughter of Phillip Pitt and his wife Elizabeth, nee Hortle. Member of the first council of the University of Melbourne in 1853. At Clunes, Vic., as a Presbyterian minister from 1869 to 1872. Professor of Hebrew, Church History, Philosophy and Apologetics at the Congregational College, Melbourne (c1872-87). Died on 14 April 1887 at 2, Perthshire Terrace, Domain Road, South Yarra, Victoria, and was buried on 16 April 1887 at the Melbourne General Cemetery, Carlton, Vic.
