Rev. INGRAM MOODY

(1806-1895) ( Baptist )

Born on 26 October 1806 at Selsted, Kent, England, son of a John Moody, yeoman, and his wife, nee Ford. Educated for the Baptist ministry at Stepney College, London and was ordained at the age of 27. Was in charge of various churches in England. He married firstly on 21 August 1839 at the Registry Office, Clutton, Somerset, England to Ann(ie) Young, of Paulton, Somerset, daughter of William Young, yeoman. They departed for the United States of America in 1840. Spent about 3 years in the State of Maine before returning to England. Stationed at Wold (Old), Northamptonshire. He married secondly on 25 December 1848 at the Wold Parish Church, Northampton, England, Annabella Palmer, daughter of Thomas Palmer, farmer. Came to Port Phillip for health reasons, arriving at Melbourne on 1 November 1849 per "Travancore" from London, England. After ministering to a church in Fenwick Street, Geelong, for ten years, he moved to Tylden. There he opened the interdenominational Woodside Chapel and was pastor there till his death on 9 May 1895 at the Woodside Manse, Tylden, Victoria. He was buried on 11 May 1895 at the Tylden Cemetery, Vic.
