Rev. JOHN ZIEGLAR HUIE

(c1823-1864) ( Presbyterian )

Born c1823 at Edinburgh, Scotland, the son of James Huie, accountant of excise, and his wife Margery, nee Zieglar. He married on 12 January 1847 at the Free Church Manse, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, to Jane Main, second daughter of Robert Main of Slomannan, Stirlingshire, Scotland. Ordained especially to come to Port Phillip and was outfitted by the Ayrshire Ladies Colonial Missionary Society. Arrived at Melbourne on 3 June 1847 per "Lima" from Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland, with his wife. Assisted at the John Knox Free Church for a time before being appointed to Geelong. Departed for England on 21 April 1850 per "Maitland". Arrived at London in August and proceeded to Scotland the following month where he was believed to have had urgent business to attend to. Returned to Victoria. Died on 16 February 1864 at his residence, Cumberland Street, Retreat Road, Newtown, Geelong, Victoria, and was buried on 18 February 1864 at the Western Cemetery, Newtown, Geelong, Vic.
