Born on 15 September 1805 at Northgate Barracks, Canterbury, Kent, England, the eldest son of Dr. Robert Davies of the 11th Hussars and later of Marlborough, County Cork, Ireland and his wife Harriett, nee Batt. Educated at a grammar school at Youghal and at Trinity College, Dublin (B.A., 1827). Later at the St. Andrew's University and Edinburgh, Scotland. Ordained deacon in September 1828 and appointed to the curacy of Kilbrin and Listowell, Ireland. Private chaplain to Lord Muskerry. Ordained priest in May 1829 by Bishop Brinkley. Arrived in Van Diemen's Land in 1830 and was appointed to Norfolk Plains (later Longford). He married on 26 February 1833 at St. John's, Launceston, V.D.L. to Maria Lyttleton, daughter of Capt. William Thomas Lyttleton of the 73rd Regiment and later Police Magistrate of Launceston, and his wife Ann, nee Hortle. Visited England in 1840-41. Returned to Longford. Arrived at Melbourne on 31 August 1841 per "Tamar" from Launceston. Appointed Rural Dean on 19 March 1844. Arrived at Melbourne on another visit on 7 February 1849 per "Swan" from Launceston with the Bishop of Tasmania. Appointed Vicar-General in February 1850 and archdeacon of Launceston in 1850. Appointed to St. David's, Hobart, c1853. Made archdeacon of Hobart in 1854. Retired in 1866. Lectured on floristry. Died on 13 November 1880 at his residence 'Ferndene,' Adelaide Street, Hobart, Tasmania and was buried on 16 November 1880 in the churchyard of St. John's, New Town, Tasmania.
