Rev. EBENEZER COLLINS

(1800-1870) ( Church of England )

Born in July 1800 at Hackney, London, England. Originally worked as a chemist and druggist. Was in Jamaica (1827-33) and Sierra Leone (1834+). Educated at Christ's Hospital, London. Ordained deacon and priest in 1839. Returned to Sierra Leone (1839-41). In Devonshire (1842-45). Sometime rector of Dunkeswell, near Wellington. He married on 9 October 1845 at Livery Dole Chapel in the St. Thomas Registration District, Devon, England to Mary Pearse, eldest daughter of James Pearse, draper. They arrived at Melbourne on 26 February 1846 per "Australia" from Liverpool, England and in March of that year he was appointed to Geelong. In October 1847 he held the first divine service at Christ Church, Geelong. Went back to London with his wife and three children per "Sir Robert Sale", departing Geelong in December 1852. Rector of Frome St. Quintin, near Beaminster, Dorset, from 1865. Died on 7 November 1870 at Redhill, Somerset, England.
