Rev. SEPTIMUS LLOYD CHASE

(1819-1895) ( Church of England )

Born on 17 July 1819 at Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, England, the son of Samuel Chase, solicitor, and his wife Louisa, nee Compigne. Educated at Clare College, Cambridge University (B.A.,1842: M.A.,1848). Ordained deacon in 1843 and priest in 1844. Curate of Bergh-Apton, Norfolk (1843-47). Arrived at Melbourne on 18 November 1849 per "Senator" from London, England. At St. Peter's, Eastern Hill. Returned to England per "Sacramento" in April 1851. He married on 8 January 1852 at St. Giles Parish Church, Reading, Berkshire, England, to Eleanor Sophia Purvis, daughter of Capt. Edward Purvis and Lettice Elizabeth Mulso. They arrived back in Melbourne on 13 July 1852 per "Lady Macdonald". Appointed to St. Paul's, Melbourne (1852-77). Chaplain to Bishop Perry (1857-76), Bishop Moorhouse (1877-86), and Bishop Goe (1887-89). Vicar of St. John's, Melbourne (1877-95). Canon of St. Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne (1879-95). Died on 3 August 1895 at his residence, Glenhuntley Road, Elsternwick, Victoria, and was buried on 5 August 1895 at the Melbourne General Cemetery, Carlton, Vic.
