Born on 20 August 1800 at Mallow, County Cork, Ireland, the second son of Henry Browne, barrister, and his wife Isabella, nee Galwey. Educated at Trinity College, Dublin (B.A., 1822). Ordained deacon in 1824 and priest in 1825. Arrived at Hobart, V.D.L. per "Coronet" in 1828. He married on 3 September 1829 at 'Wanstead,' V.D.L. to Caroline Johnston Willis, daughter of Richard Willis of 'Wanstead,' near Conara, V.D.L. At St. John's, Launceston from 1828. Arrived at Melbourne on 25 May 1846 per "Shamrock" from Launceston, V.D.L. After his wife's death in 1845 he remarried on 25 June 1846 at St. John's, Launceston to Julia Augusta Gavan, youngest daughter of the Rev. John Gavan of Wallstown, County Cork, Ireland. Retired from St. John's in 1868 and was made Archdeacon of Launceston in 1870. Died on 18 June 1877 at his residence, 'Bifrons Court,' High Street, Launceston, Tasmania and was buried at the Cypress Street Cemetery, Launceston, Tasmania.
