Born 10 April 1805 and baptised on 3 September 1805 at Heversham Parish Church, Westmoreland, England, the son of John Bolden (formerly Lennard), of Hyning Hall, Warton with Lindeth, Lancashire, England, and his wife Mary, nee Satterthwaite. Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University (B.A., 1828; M.A., 1834). Ordained deacon in 1831 and priest in 1832 by the Bishop of Chester. He married on 27 May 1835 at Stockport, Cheshire, England to Eliza Andrew, daughter of George Andrew of Compstall, Cheshire. Arrived at Melbourne on 14 December 1840 from England per "Dumfries" with his wife and family. At Port Phillip he and his brothers established pastoral interests based on shorthorn cattle. Lived at 'Banyule,' Heidelberg. Officiated only occasionally. President of the Melbourne Club, c1847. Departed for England in May 1847 per "Abberton." Rector of Preston Bissett, Buckinghamshire (1863-73) and was succeeded there by his son, the Rev. Charles Bolden. Died on 12 March 1892 at Bradford Abbas, Dorset, England and was buried on 17 March 1892 in the Preston Bissett Parish Churchyard, Buckinghamshire, England.
