Born 14 March 1800 in (Kensington?), Hampshire, England, the son of Rev./Capt. Willoughby Bean, and his wife Elizabeth, nee Haffy. His early years were spent in France (one source says he was born there) where his father was a prisoner of war. Emigrated to New South Wales per "Courier" in 1824. Landholder at Brisbane Water in the 1828 census. He married on 11 July 1838 at Brisbane Water, N.S.W. to Harriet Battley, second daughter of Lt.Col. William Battley, Commandant, Cape Town, and his wife Harriet, nee Marshall. At Green Point, Brisbane Water. Returned to England in 1838 and studied for the ministry. Educated at the University of Wales (M.A.). Ordained at St. David's Cathedral. Returned to Melbourne on 24 January 1848 with Bishop Perry's party on the "Stag" from London. Ordained deacon at St. James', Melbourne on 25 June 1848 by Bishop Perry. Ordained priest on 3 June 1849 at Christ Church, Geelong. Appointed to minister from Port Albert to Omeo, Gippsland. At Inverleigh from 1859 to c1866. Then became the chaplain of the Yarra Bend and Kew Asylums. Held this position till his death on 17 June 1877 at 8 Victoria Street, Richmond, Victoria. He was buried on 19 June 1877 at the Boroondara Cemetery, Kew, Vic.
