PETER VIRTUE

(1800-1883) ( Baptist )

Born in 1800 at Wishaw, near Glasgow, Scotland, the son of John Virtue, merchant, and his wife Elizabeth, nee Hill. He married on 25 June 1826 at Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland to Marion Wilson, daughter of David Wilson of Glasgow, Scotland. A Scotch Baptist. Arrived at Melbourne on 20 September 1839 per "Ariadne" from Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland, with his wife and family. Conducted early Baptist services in a tent on land owned by Thomas Napier. In partnership as "Miller and Virtue", general dealers. Farmer at Coburg. Died on 16 April 1883 at his residence, Harding's Road, Coburg, Victoria, and was buried on 18 April 1883 at the Coburg Cemetery, Vic.
