Rev. NATHANIEL TURNER

(1793-1864) ( Wesleyan Methodist )

Born in 1793 at Wybunbury, Cheshire, England, the son of a farmer. Orphaned when nine years old. Was a local preacher before entering the ministry in 1821. He married on 10 January 1822 at Etruria, Stoke upon Trent, Staffordshire, England to Ann Sargeant of Etruria. They arrived at Hobart, Van Diemen's Land in 1823. Later ministered in Sydney, New South Wales and Wesley Dale, New Zealand. At the Friendly Islands. Returned to New South Wales in 1831. To Hokianga, New Zealand in 1836. Arrived at Melbourne on 5 December 1847 per "Juno" from Sydney and departed on 25 December 1847 per "Juno" for Sydney. In October 1849 his eldest daughter, Anne, married the Rev. John Harcourt. Retired as a supernumary in 1850. Went to Moreton Bay in 1854. Died on 5 December 1864 at North Quay, Brisbane, Queensland, and was buried on 8 December 1864 at the Wesleyan Methodist Cemetery, Brisbane, Qld.
