ABEL THORPE

(c1803-1853) ( Wesleyan Methodist )

Born c1803 in Holmfirth, Yorkshire, England. He married c1829 in Wales to Elizabeth Jones. Arrived at Port Phillip c1840 from Liverpool, England. A tailor and draper with premises in Collins Street, Melbourne. Partner with Thomas Atkinson at 'Native Creek Bottom' c1842. Performed a Wesleyan Methodist burial at Melbourne on 26 September 1842. Died on 11 September 1853 at Newlands, Coburg, Victoria and was buried on 14 September 1853 at the Melbourne General Cemetery, Carlton, Vic.
