Rev. ANDREAS FRIEDRICH CHRISTIAN TAEGER

(1811-1870) ( Moravian )

Born on 6 September 1811 in Wulfinghausen (Hanover) the son of Andreas Friedrich Tager and his wife Sophie Dorothea, nee Heuer. Arrived at Melbourne on 25 February 1850 per "Sibella" from London, England in response to a request to the London headquarters of the Moravian Mission where the Lieutenant-Governor's brother, Peter La Trobe, was secretary. Was accompanied by Freidrich Wilhelm Spieseke. They established the Lake Boga Mission to the aborigines. This mission succombed to the effects of the gold rush and was closed on 1 July 1856. Returned to London, departing Melbourne in September 1856 per "True Briton." Died on 22 December 1870 in Gnadenberg.
