Rev. FRIEDRICH WILHELM SPIESEKE

(1820-1877) ( Moravian )

Born on 23 July 1820 at Stucken, Prussia (Germany), the son of August Spieseke, farmer, and his wife Louise, nee Kuhn. Arrived at Melbourne on 25 February 1850 per "Sibella" from London, England with the Rev. Andreas Friedrich Christian Taeger. They conducted a mission station to the aborigines at Lake Boga. This station closed on 1 July 1856 and they both departed for London in September 1856 per "True Briton." Ordained overseas. Arrived back in Melbourne on 14 May 1858 per "Black Swan" with the Rev. Friedrich August Hagenauer. They established the Ebenezer Mission Station to the aborigines. He married on 29 May 1861 at St. Paul's Church of England, Melbourne, Vic., to Johanna Christine Fricke, daughter of Ernest Fricke, farmer, of Flackstockheim, Hanover, and his wife Elizabeth, nee Karms. At Ebenezer Mission Station for 19 years. Died on 24 June 1877 at the Ebenezer Mission Station, Antwerp, near Dimboola, Victoria, and was buried on 26 June 1877 at the Ebenezer Mission Station, Vic.
