Rev. ALEXANDER SALMON

(1802-1864) ( Presbyterian - Free )

Born in 1802 at Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, Scotland the youngest son of John Salmon, artificer, of Cambuslang, near Glasgow, Scotland. Educated at the University of Glasgow. He married on 4 January 1823 at Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, Scotland to Margaret Galloway. Schoolmaster at Kilsyth in 1823. Licensed by the Presbytery of Glasgow on 30 March 1836. Ordained to South Parish, Paisley, on 19 August 1836. Joined the Free Church in 1843. Minister of Barrhead Free Church (1843-49). Arrived at Melbourne on 19 July 1849 with his wife and family per "Victory" from Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland. Visited Launceston, Van Diemen's Land and on his return to Melbourne proceeded on to Sydney, New South Wales. Minister of St. Stephen's Church, Sydney (1849-1860). In Melbourne again in January 1850. Visited Brisbane in 1850. Returned to Scotland for health reasons. Died on 6 August 1864 at Alderney, Channel Islands.
