Pastor John RIDE

(1790-1862) ( Primitive Methodist / Wesleyan Methodist )

Born in 1790 in Derbyshire, England, the son of John Ride, farmer, and his wife Martha. He married firstly c1820. Entered the ministry in 1821. Preached in the industrial areas of England. He married secondly, c1826 in Derbyshire, England, to Martha Doncaster. They arrived at Melbourne on 17 January 1850 per "Minerva" from London, England. On 21 April 1851 he opened the Carpenter Street Chapel, Brighton, Victoria. Worked as a storekeeper. Later at Benalla, Vic. Entered the Wesleyan Methodist ministry. Died on 15 January 1862 at the residence of his son, William Ride, Benalla, Victoria, and was buried on 16 January 1862 at the Benalla Cemetery, Vic.
