THOMAS HAMILTON OSBORNE

(c1806-1853) ( Unitarian )

Born c1806, possibly at Killinchy, County Down, Ireland. Educated at Belfast, Ireland. Studied natural philosophy and became a Unitarian minister. Arrived in Van Diemen's Land c1827. At the Government Printing Office, Hobart. Arrived at Melbourne on 3 March 1840 per "Tamar" from Launceston, V.D.L. Editor of the "Port Phillip Herald". He married on 7 September 1841 at Melbourne, Port Phillip District, to Mary Kiley (or Coily), daughter of P. Kiley (or Coily) of County Clare, Ireland. Secretary of the Mechanics School of Arts. Editor of the "Melbourne Times." Later editor of the "Belfast Gazette." He married secondly on 9 October 1850 at Belfast, Port Fairy, Port Phillip District, to Eliza Helena Treac(e)y, daughter of William Treac(e)y, merchant, of Leighlin Bridge, County Carlow, Ireland. Elected Member of the Legislative Council for Belfast and Warrnambool (1851-52). Died on 28 May 1853 probably at Belfast, Port Fairy, Victoria, and was buried on 31 May 1853 at the Port Fairy Cemetery, Vic.
