Rev. THOMAS MOWBRAY

(1812-1867) ( Presbyterian )

Born in 1812 at Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland, the son of Matthew Mowbray, ironmonger, and his wife Jane, nee Miller. Educated at the University of Glasgow (M.A.,1834). Licensed as a preacher assisting the Rev. Dr. Keith of Hamilton. Later at Quoad Sacre Church, Blackridge. Ordained on the 5th August 1841 by the Presbytery of Hamilton. He married on 17 August 1841 at West Colinton, Edinburgh, Scotland, to Williamina Anderson. Later that year they departed from Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland, per "Robert Benn" and arrived at Melbourne on 26 January 1842. A few months later he was appointed to Campbellfield where he opened a temporary kirk on 8 May 1842. He removed to Sydney in December 1844 and two and a half years later went to Moreton Bay. Died on 24 December 1867 at 'Riversdale,' Kangaroo Point, Moreton Bay, Queensland, and was buried on 25 December 1867 at the Paddington Cemetery, Brisbane, Queensland.
