Rev. JOHN GOW

(1803-1866) ( Presbyterian )

Born in 1803 at Glasgow, Scotland, the son of Benjamin Gow, merchant. Educated at the University of Glasgow (M.A.,1826). Licenced by the Presbytery of Glasgow. Said to have arrived at Melbourne in 1847 from Scotland but was probably at Port Phillip earlier as a settler. Ordained on 3 November 1847 at Scots Church, Melbourne to the pastoral charge of Colac and Woady Yallock. Did not marry. Was later appointed to Smythesdale and Scarsdale. Died on 18 June 1866 at the Presbyterian Manse, Miner's Rest, Victoria, and was buried on 22 June 1866 at the Smythesdale Cemetery, Vic.
