Rev. WILLIAM BRICKWOOD

(c1817-1901) ( Church of England )

Born c1817 and baptised on 23 November 1817 at St. Peter, Parmentergate, Norwich, Norfolk, England, the son of Latham John Brickwood, gentleman, of Norwich, Norfolk, and his wife Sarah. Educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge University, and St. Mary Hall, Oxford University. He married in 1841 on the Isle of Wight, England to Edith Kent. Arrived at Melbourne on 24 December 1841 per "Gilmore" from Plymouth, England, with his wife. After an initial term as Master at St. Ninian's, Brighton, he became Headmaster of an Academy in Collins Street, Melbourne. Ordained deacon on 25 January 1849 and priest on 23 December 1849 at St. James Church, Melbourne. At Brighton (1850-53). Went to Van Diemen's Land in 1853 because of ill-health. At Campbelltown and Ross, V.D.L. for some years. Returned to England. Resumed studies at Cambridge University (B.A.,1864). Married secondly Laura Georgina? Curate of Stoke Hammond, Buckinghamshire, 1866. Vicar of St. Giles, Totternhoe, Bedfordshire (1866-87). Rector of Toddington, Bedfordshire (1887-1901). Died on 12 December 1901 at Maison Mendaique, Rue de Bordeaux, Argeles Sazost, Hautes Pyrenees, France.
