Rev. THOMAS HENRY BRAIM

(1814-1891) ( Church of England )

Born in June 1814 at Doncaster, Yorkshire (or Wybunbury, Cheshire), England, the son of the Rev. Thomas Braim, vicar of West Wittering, Sussex, and his wife Jane, nee Caile. Educated at St. John's College, Cambridge University. He married firstly in 1833, Elizabeth Liley, daughter of Joseph Liley. They arrived at Hobart, Van Diemen's Land on 19 December 1835 per "Orissa". Headmaster of Bishop's Grammar School, Hobart, Van Diemen's Land (1835-38). Arrived at Melbourne on 27 February 1841 per "Thomas Crisp" from Hobart, Van Diemen's Land. Principal of Sydney College (1841-48). Author of "A History of New South Wales: From its Settlement to the Close of the Year 1844" (London, 1846). Ordained deacon in 1848 and priest on 3 June 1849 at Christ Church, Geelong. Vicar of St. John's, Port Fairy in 1848. He married secondly on 2 September 1861 at Christ Church, Hawthorn, Victoria, to Mrs. Caroline Sarah Simpson, widow of James Simpson of Melbourne. Archdeacon of Portland, Victoria (1854-66). Returned to England. Rector of All Saint's, Dorchester, Dorset (1867-68). Chaplain to the Marquis of Lothian (1867-68). Rector of Bishop's Caundle, Dorset (1868-75). Vicar of Islington, South Devon (1875-79). Rector of Risley, Derbyshire (1879-91). Died on 14 October 1891 at Risley, Derbyshire, England.
