Rev. WILLIAM BINNINGTON BOYCE

(1804-1889) ( Wesleyan Methodist )

Born on 9 November 1804 at Beverley, Yorkshire, England. Entered the ministry in 1829 after having been initially employed in commerce. Appointed to South Africa for thirteen years. He married firstly, in 1834 in South Africa, to Maria Bowden, daughter of James Bowden, merchant, of Hull, Yorkshire, England. At Bolton, Lancashire (1843-45). Went to Sydney, New South Wales in 1846 as Superintendent of Wesleyan Missions in Australia. Made a brief visit to Melbourne arriving on 6 November 1846 per "Shamrock" from Sydney. Came again in February 1848. He married secondly, on 4 February 1873 at Toxteth, Sydney, N.S.W. to Jane Elizabeth Pitman Allen, daughter of the Hon. George W. Allen. Died on 8 March 1889 at his residence, 'Bowden', Toxteth Road, the Glebe, Sydney, New South Wales, and was buried on 10 March 1889 at the Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney, N.S.W.
