Rev. DAVID HUNTER BALLANTYNE

(c1823 - 1889) ( Presbyterian - United )

Born c1823 at Roxborough, Scotland, and baptised on 22 June 1823 in the Ashkirk district, the son of Robert Ballantyne and his wife Margaret, nee Hunter. He became an elder of the Rev. Andrew Ramsay Mitchell's congregation at Hawick, Scotland. He married on 19 June 1849 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland and/or on 21 June 1849 at Hawick, Roxburghshire, Scotland to Margaret Kennedy Smith. Was an advanced student when he arrived at Melbourne on 27 March 1850 per "Stratheden" from London, England. Ordained in Melbourne on 14 May 1851. At Albury, New South Wales, from 1851 to 1869. At Brighton and Cheltenham, Victoria, from 1869 till his retirement in 1887. Died on 27 April 1889 at 'Inverarie', 3 Blenheim Street, Balaclava, St. Kilda, Victoria, and was buried on 28 April 1889 at the Brighton Cemetery, Vic.
