Pastor DANIEL ALLEN

(1824-1891) ( Baptist )

Born on 14 February 1824 in Brundish, Suffolk, England, the son of William Allen, farmer, and his wife, nee Kibble. At Sydney, New South Wales in January 1845. Arrived at Launceston, Van Diemen's Land in 1845 where he joined Pastor Henry Dowling's congregation. He married on 30 October 1846 at the Baptist Chapel, York Street, Launceston, V.D.L., to Georgiana Mary Greenaway Hollyman. They came to Melbourne c1848. Earned his living as a carter whilst carrying out pastoral duties. Lived in Melbourne; Ballarat; and Preston, before returning to Melbourne. Pastor of the Ebenezer Chapel, Market Lane, off Bourke Street, Melbourne from c1858. Established a church at Eaglehawk in 1868. Briefly in Launceston, V.D.L. Became pastor of the Particular Baptist Church, Castlereagh Street, Sydney, New South Wales in 1871. Also held preaching services in the Sydney Domain. Died on 14 September 1891 at 283 Castlereagh Street, Sydney, N.S.W., and was buried on 16 September 1891 at the Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney, N.S.W.
